Whites Down, Blacks Safe & Hispanics on The Rise

Posted by RealisM On February - 4 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The estimated time when whites will no longer make up the majority of Americans has been pushed back eight years — to 2050 — because the recession and stricter immigration policies have slowed the flow of foreigners into the U.S.

Census Bureau figures released Wednesday update last year’s prediction that white children would become a minority in 2023 and the overall white population would follow in 2042. The earlier estimate did not take into account a drop in the number of people moving into the U.S. because of the economic crisis and the immigration policies imposed after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

The 2050 estimate is one of four projections released that is based on rates for births and deaths and a scenario in which immigration continues its more recent, slower pace of adding nearly 1 million new foreigners each year. Demographers said that scenario offers the best look for now at the future demographic makeup based on current conditions, rather than other models which assume higher rates of immigration.

The United States has 308 million people today; two-thirds are non-Hispanic whites.

The total population should climb to 399 million by 2050, under the new projection, with whites making up 49.9 percent of the population. Blacks will make up 12.2 percent, virtually unchanged from today. Hispanics, currently 15 percent of the population, will rise to 28 percent in 2050.

Asians are expected to increase from 4.4 percent of the population to 6 percent.

The point when minority children become the majority is expected to have a similar delay of roughly eight years, moving from 2023 to 2031.

The population 85 and older is projected to more than triple by 2050, to 18.6 million.

The actual shift in demographics will be influenced by a host of factors that can’t be accurately forecast — the pace of the economic recovery, cultural changes, natural or manmade disasters, as well as an overhaul of immigration law, which may be debated in Congress as early as next year.

As a result, the Census Bureau said the projections should be used mostly as a guide.

The agency also released numbers showing projections based on “high” rates of immigration — more likely if more-flexible government policies and a booming U.S. economy attract large numbers of foreigners — as well as “low” immigration, a possible scenario if U.S. policies don’t change much while the economy substantially improves.

_With high immigration, the minority “tipping point” is moved up to 2040, two years earlier than the previous estimate. At that time, Asians would have a much larger share, at 8 percent, since their population growth is more dependent on immigration than birth rates.

_With low immigration, the “tipping point” arrives by 2045.

Under a purely theoretical “zero immigration” scenario in which the U.S. effectively does not take in any immigrants, whites would remain the majority in 2050, making up a solid 58 percent of the U.S. population. In such a case, the share of Hispanics would increase to 21 percent because of high fertility rates and a younger population.

Under a “zero immigration” model, the 65 and older population also grows substantially faster, comprising nearly 1 in 4 Americans.

“These projections show that immigration will serve to replenish our labor force as baby boomers age into retirement and make our population younger without overburdening our schools and other community resources,” said William H. Frey, a demographer at Brookings Institution.

Facebook As an Alibi?

19 year old Rodney Bradford was accused of armed robbery in Brooklyn, but let out of jail because he was updating his status on Facebook at the same time the crime took place at his father’s apartment in  Harlem.

Rodney spent days on Rikers Island after witnesses picked him out of a line up and may have never gotten out if it wasn’t for his Internet alibi. After pleading his case to Detectives it was obvious that there is no way the defendant could have updated is status and committed a robbery 13 miles away at the same time. All Rodney could say was, “Thank you Facebook”.

Many critics say this is not a useful alibi because someone could have easily logged on as him and updated for him. This could be true but with this internet documentation as well as a house full of alibi’s it’s hard to say he was there.

With all the people going to jail behind things they do on the internet it’s cool to see someone get out from using it. lol

Fox News Reports Kanye Died

Posted by Ky Williams On February - 1 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

kanye 1“Fair and Balanced” Fox News has made one of the most outrageous destructive claims of their time this week by reporting that Kanye West died in an automobile crash on Tuesday. They even report that alcohol may have played a role. This is absolutely untrue and Rupert Murdoch should be heavily fined for letting his company put out such a claim. Everyone knows Fox is a racist (Yea I said racist) news station but killing a man off without any regard for the facts or truth is deplorable.

Check what Kanye West’s girl Amber rose tweeted,

kanye 2

When is enough enough. We already had TMZ kill off Maya Angelou now Fox killing Ye? We really need to put pressure on the FCC to fine Fox for putting out such blatantly false information.

Dwight Howard Sues His Child’s Mother

Dwight Howard // Royce Lindsay Reed & Braylon Howard

Dwight Howard the Orlando Magic star is suing Royce Lyndsay Reed, the mother of their 2-year-old son Braylon, once again. This time for $142,500! Reed broke yet ANOTHER order by posting pictures of Braylon on her Twitter account, which had 285 followers at the time.

According to documents filed by Howard and his attorney, Reed was ordered by a judge last year to refrain from posting photographs of Braylon on the Internet, whether it be a blog, a website, a message board, a social network, etc. The reason being that Howard thinks that posting pictures of the toddler on the Internet poses “a significant security threat to the child” due to him being a high-paid celebrity and all.

But where exactly does that $142,500 come from? A simple math equation. Royce, a former dancer for the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat, is being sued $500 for each of her 285 followers, plus attorney fees.

It’s a good thing she doesn’t have more followers. Regardless, we think she needs to stay away from the Internet for a while since she obviously doesn’t know how to use it without getting lawsuits hurled at her. However, this seems to be a bit much as well on the part of Dwight Howard!

Angie Stone & F.A.C.E.

Posted by RealisM On February - 1 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

The Fearless African Americans Connected and Empowered (F.A.C.E.) Diabetes campaign is a grassroots movement empowering African Americans to help individuals, families, and neighborhoods overcome key barriers to success in living with diabetes. The disease affects more than three million African-Americans nationwide.

Supported by Eli Lilly and Company, corporate partners, national advocacy groups and local community organizations, the campaign’s goal is to help foster behavioral and attitudinal changes in areas critical to success in managing diabetes such as nutrition/cooking, physical activity, health, and overall well- being. Lilly and the F.A.C.E. Diabetes campaign are helping African Americans with diabetes learn to better manage a disease that can lead to devastating complications if left uncontrolled.

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone is partnering with the American Diabetes Association in their efforts to raise awareness about the diabetes epidemic facing the African-American community. She has been traveling to cities around the country since 2007 to inspire others by sharing how she personally manages the day-to-day challenges of living with diabetes.

“I’m thrilled to bring the F.A.C.E. Diabetes movement back to my hometown of Atlanta as part of Victory Over Diabetes,” said Stone. “Due, in part, to what I’ve learned through the campaign, I’ve made some great strides in better managing my own diabetes. I hope my story can motivate others, which is why I’m encouraging everyone to come out to this free event.”
